Jraghatspanyan Winery released its first wines in 2017. Based in the region of Armavir, they specialize in grape varieties that are traditional to the region. Winemaker Artem Jraghatspanyan brings technical proficiency and meticulous attention to detail to the family's winemaking style. He has built a new winery facility atop the family's underground cellar built originally in the 1890s, and is today producing some of Armenia's  leading examples of wines made with varieties native to this region such as Tigrani and Garan Dmak.

The first vintage of the Special Selection Garan Dmak was 2021. This is a rare grape variety, and this Special Selection bottling is Armenia's leading example of pure 100% Garan Dmak. On average, only 2,000 bottles are produced per year.

Since this region is prone to winter frost, a rare fan-shaped vine training system is used which uses multiple arms pruned close to the ground, which makes the vine easier to bury in the winter in order to prevent frost damage.

Garan Dmak is an ancient technical white grape variety, mainly spread in Armavir region. In different parts of Ararat region Garan Dmak is met in small quantity or as singular plants. The etymology of the name comes from the Armenian language, in translation meaning “fat lamb tail”. The grape belongs to eco-geographical group of eastern varieties.

Jraghatspanyan Winery was founded in 2017, based in the village of Bambakashat, Armavir. Run by three brothers, the middle brother, Artem is the winemaker. He is in constant quest for the best blending with daily experiments and tests. The winery aims to produce wines that combine the unique attributes of the grapes and terroir of Armavir with modern methods that ensure the production of quality wines that meet the highest international standards. Their first wines were released based on the 2017 vintage. The family’s name is a reference to the family’s traditional trade, running a watermill (jraghats=watermill).
