Aran 2019 Voskehat Dry White Wine – Rind, Vayots Dzor, Armenia

The Sarafian Family, owners of Aran Wines and Sarafian Vineyards, have faced profound challenges in their unwavering commitment to Artsakh’s winemaking heritage. Despite adversity, they continue their mission with resilience, preserving and celebrating indigenous Armenian grape varieties.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from the highlands of Rind Village in Vayots Dzor, Armenia—a region known for its ancient winemaking traditions and exceptional terroir.

Rind Village: A Land of Beauty and Heritage

Situated at 4,500 feet above sea level in the Areni Municipality of Vayots Dzor, Rind is a historic village nestled within the Vardenis mountain range, overlooking the Arpa Valley. The name “Rind” in Armenian conveys meanings of beauty, pride, and distinction—qualities that are deeply reflected in the wines produced here. Founded in the early 1800s, Rind is home to some of Armenia’s finest vineyards, alongside world-renowned wineries such as Zorah Wines and Yacoubian-Hobbs.

Voskehat: The Queen of Armenian Grapes

An ancient and revered white grape variety, Voskehat—meaning “golden seed” in Armenian—is often called the Queen of Armenian Grapes. Thriving in Armenia’s diverse terroirs, it is widely used as both a single varietal wine and as a primary component in white blends.

Tasting Profile & Characteristics

Voskehat wines are typically medium to full-bodied with moderate acidity, prized for their distinctive floral aromas. On the nose, it reveals elegant notes of lemon verbena, jasmine, citrus blossom, stone fruit, and an array of white flowers.

  • Cooler vintages highlight stone fruit flavors, such as white peach and apricot.
  • Warmer vintages bring out tropical notes like pineapple and mango.

A Grape Built for Armenia’s Climate

In the vineyard, Voskehat is a resilient variety, its thick skins providing natural protection against mildew. Well-adapted to Armenia’s climate, it thrives in hot summer days and cold nighttime temperatures, ensuring a balanced ripening process that enhances its depth and complexity.

This 2019 Aran Voskehat is a stunning expression of Armenia’s rich winemaking legacy—vibrant, aromatic, and deeply connected to the land from which it comes. Enjoy!
