95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (formerly of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate)
“All from the Sundance Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, the 2015 Syrah The Deal (100% Syrah, not destemmed and aged in 30% new puncheons) offers smoking notes of red and black fruits, black olive, smoked earth and a huge meatiness. Full-bodied, silky and seamless, with a rock, mineral, backward style.”
93+ Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The most reticent and reserved of these Syrah bottlings, the 2015 Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard opens in the glass with notes of sweet red berries, potpourri and tapenade. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, with an assertive chassis of structuring tannins.”
Deep in color, expansive in flavor. Undergrowth, red brick building with an undercurrent. Wet stone, plum, cured meat. Taut with energy for days.
Sundance Vineyard (100%): One of the oldest vineyards on the Wahluke Slope, planted in 1997. The site is topsoil over gravel, sand and broken down basalt with more caliche than other sites in the Wahluke. The vineyard, because of its aspect, is also a later ripening site allowing for great concentration.
Vintage: The 2015 harvest was the warmest vintage in recorded history, with fantastic viticulture and a great extended harvest. Because of this, we were able to make some of the most incredible wines to date. The vintage was dry and long with an early bud break and late harvest that had cool evenings to guarantee incredible quality. The 2015 wines have big complex flavors, good acidity and great balance.
