VOSKENI Winery: A Legacy Reclaimed
VOSKENI Winery is more than a winery; it’s the realization of a dream nearly a century in the making. Born from a family's deep-rooted connection to their heritage, the story of VOSKENI spans continents, revolutions, and generations.
Located in Sardarapat, in the heart of the Ararat Valley, VOSKENI Winery stands on land once owned by Smbat Mateossian, the great-grandfather of the current proprietors. A successful businessman and expat Armenian from Boston, Smbat returned to Armenia in the 1920s with a vision: to cultivate vineyards and produce world-class wines. However, his dream was cut short when the Communists confiscated his newly acquired lands, leaving his aspirations unfulfilled.
In 2008, Smbat’s descendants reclaimed the family’s ancestral vineyards, breathing new life into his vision. Today, they craft exceptional wines that honor Armenia’s 6,000-year-old winemaking heritage while embracing modern excellence.
The diverse microclimate of the Ararat Valley, coupled with its extraordinary terroir, provides the perfect conditions for cultivating exquisite grapes. Among these is Areni, Armenia's indigenous red grape varietal, renowned for producing elegant and distinctive wines.
VOSKENI Winery isn’t just about wine; it’s a tribute to resilience, tradition, and the enduring pursuit of a dream.
